The Humans’ is a journey to one’s true self. Our performances show what it truly feels like to be a human being. How challenging it can be. How complex the choices that each of us faces are.

Who we are

“I’ve got an idea, and if I hold it in me any longer, I will go insane!”

This is the confession, which launched “The Humans” theater. There were only the two of us then. Okay, three, to be exact. Our cat was the silent witness to how we emotionally discussed the future performance. Luckily, he will never be able to tell anyone how we danced around the apartment, imagining the way our characters should act from scene to scene.

This was the beginning of the search for answers. How to make this happen? Who would want to join us? And, most importantly – does it even matter to anyone else? This was a major concern because prior to this experience we were working on big shows with lots special effects, targeted at a big audience, whereas here everything boiled down to an intimate spectacle and minimalistic production. The response came in stories. Lots of moving and honest stories that we received from those who visited the premiere of “The Corridor”. This was the moment when we realized – we were not alone in our hopes, dreams and thoughts. Hundreds of people shared the same aspirations.

Yurii Pristayetskiy

Founder and director of “The Humans” theater.

Prior to this experience, worked on a series of successful projects. Choreographed and staged the theatrical performance “Taras’ Passions” for the National Opera, was the second choreographer for the “New Maslyana” and “Guardians of the Dreams” pieces. Directed and choreographed the opening of the second semi-final of the “Eurovision Song Contest-2017”.

Tala Pristayetska

Co-founder and playwright of “The Humans” theater.

Also – the author and creative producer of the series of short-length films “Unbroken”. Scriptwriter for the performance “Guardians of the Dreams”. Adapted and successfully launched what then became two of Ukraine’s most popular television shows – “The X-Factor” and “Ukraine’s Got Talent”.

Our mission

Quit thinking about movements. Realize what moves you.

“The Humans” is a physical theater. We don’t hide behind decorations or complex technical stage effects. We care about true emotions and this helps us to create an honest conversation with each viewer. When the lights go on and we see the audience, the eyes of these people tell us that they have experienced the story with us. They have found their answers. This is when we know that we are on the right path.

I wanted the truth. The one that is neither nominal nor scripted. Also – the one that is neither theatrical nor cinematic. I wanted the kind of truth that really moves and allows to experience deep emotions. This, I believe, is something worth talking about.

Behind the scenes

Our team

Each of them is a separate planet. He who investigates it carefully, will discover new verities.
Yurii Pristayetskiy, founder and director of “The Humans”

The idea has brought together a team of extremely talented people, each willing to create something bigger than a trivial show. We are not afraid of seeming weird or funny. United, we really enjoy studying every aspect of life. It does not matter whether it is the dancer performing the lead role, or the costume designer – each one contributes to the stories that we then share from the stage.
